A Spanish Gin and Tonic

Spanish Gin and Tonic Recipe

My love of a gin and tonic knows no bounds. It’s a classic and my go to livener when a livener is needed *most evenings*. This Spanish Gin and Tonic is nothing new, it’s just an old favourite with some new additions. It’s drinkable, aromatic and without doubt, I will be holding one this Friday evening.

Sometimes I am so desperate for a G&T I can’t even be arsed to add ice and a slice, but this Spanish Gin and Tonic is so much more than that. You can add all sorts of things to your Gin and Tonic to make it even more delicious, but my Spanish affair calls for just a touch of Angostura bitters, a scattering of juniper berries and a lovely slice of pink grapefruit. These all add a lovely aroma to your drink which is subtle, but noticeable. I got my juniper berries from Whole Foods as the shelves were bare elsewhere, but I’m glad I did as it’s a pretty jar which now lives on my drinks trolley.

I’m not very good with change, I am nearly 50 and a tiny bit set in my ways. However, this Spanish Gin and Tonic is a brilliant upgrade and so much more than just a fancy garnish.

I promise you I didn’t write this post just to show off my new decanter *I did*. I love it, so therefore filled it with my favourite spirit in it’s honour. I chose a Mediterranean Fever-Tree tonic for my G&T for added fragrance, but you can use your favourite.

Make a start with a large glass, I went for a tall, but a balloon glass would be lovely too. Add a good handful of ice.

Measure in the gin of your choice. I used my Aldi London Gin, it’s delicious, I can’t sing it’s praises enough. Then top up with your tonic of choice.

Add just a splash of Angostura then give your drink a stir.

Add your aromatics in a final flourish; a scant half teaspoon of juniper berries and a slice of pink grapefruit.

Sip and fall in love with this fresh G&T. And don’t worry, the juniper berries don’t get stuck in your teeth.

I know it’s cold, grey and damp and we should probably be drinking mulled wine. However, one sip of this Spanish Gin and Tonic will transport you back to summer and warmer times. Especially if you turn the heating up or drink whilst hugging a hot water bottle.

Have a lovely weekend.
